Romantic operetta in three acts by Franz Lehár
Words by A. M. Willner and Robert Bodanzky
First Night: July, 21st 2012
The creation of this operetta not only marks the beginning of a lifelong, extremely successful cooperation and friendship between Lehár and his star, the tenor Richard Tauber, but also shows his genuine passion for operatic stories. It is the tale of Zorika, the daughter of the wealthy lord of the manor Dragotin. She is torn between her passionate love for the gypsy violinist Joszi and Jonel Bolescu, the man she is supposed to marry. In a dream she has the revelation her amour fou with Joszi would destroy her and therefore she chooses the secure life with Jonel. Until today this work remains one of Lehár´s richest and most beautiful scores.
