The masterpiece of the French Romantic composer takes a distinct place in the history of the Slovak National Theatre Opera. Its production, directed by Jozef Bednárik and staged on the eve of the Velvet Revolution in 1989 was a first step towards a contemporary, modern concept of musical theatre. In the 90th anniversary season, a production team headed by the brilliant Lithuanian director Gintaras Varnas and the chief conductor of the SND Opera Rastislav Štúr, take on this outstanding title once again.
