THEATRE DES CHAMPS ÉLYSEES - ENSEMBLE ORCHESTRAL DE PARIS
30.05.2012 - 12.06.2012 : 20:00 : Theatre des Champs Élysees

Founded: 1978 - Paris, France

Ensemble Orchestral de Paris (= EOP) (The Orchestral Ensemble of Paris) was founded in 1978 by Marcel Landowsky, Jean-Pierre Wallew and Roland Bourdin. Under the direction of its succesive conductors, Jean-Pierre Wallez, Armin Jordan, Jean Jacques Kantorow and presently John Nelson, it has acquired both a specific colorful sound, the mastery of a vast repertoire and a unique place in the French musical landscape.

The orchestral ensemble -a typical example of a so called ´Mannheim´ formation-, which Mozart and Haydn used, wants to extend its repertoire beyond the one traditionally expected from such formations. From the great classics of the repertoire to comtemporary creations, not mentioning the 19th and 20th century music, its programs are always noted for their pioneering spirit, for reaching out to lesser known works or less frequently played composers. This open-mindedness is reflected in the selection of guest artists which, next to world famous artists, often include young talents. Besides its purely instrumental acitivities, the orchestra devotes a great deal of time to lyrical art, and has already accompanied José Van Dam several times. Within the context of its partnership with the Opéra Comique (Paris), the Orchestral Ensemble gave Clara, Carmen, Don Giovanni, etc…

All these musical facets of the orchestra can be found in an impressive discography unanimouly hailed by musical critics : La Muse et le Poète, Spartacus (Diapason d’Or), La Tempête et La Légende de Sainte-Cécile (Choc du Monde de la Musique), La Dame Blanche de Boildieu (Best recording of the year at the fifth Victoires de la Musique).
