„Wenn man’s in Wien aufführt, wird’s sicher der größte Theaterskandal der Zweiten Republik!“ Als Elfriede Jelinek 1981 ihr damals jüngstes Stück, eine „böse Posse mit Gesang“, ankündigte, da ahnte nicht einmal sie, dass BURGTHEATER auch ohne die eigentlich geplante Premiere im Burgtheater ihren Ruf als „Nestbeschmutzerin“ begründen sollte. Eine berühmte Schauspielerfamilie, Geraunze und Geraune in mörderischer Kunstsprache: Für den Schweizer Regisseur und Wiener Festwochen-Intendanten Milo Rau, dem Jelinek nun exklusiv die Rechte für eine späte Burgtheater-Premiere einräumte, werden dies nur einige der Ausgangspunkte für ein größeres szenisches Panoptikum sein: Öffentlichkeit und Anpassung, Geschichte (der BURG, des Theaters und Europas), Faschismus und Verdrängung.
