Deutsche Oper Berlin – The Magic Flute

With The Magic Flute , Mozart sought to create a work for everyone; its blend of Viennese popular theater, Singspiel , and Italian opera has made it an enduring audience favorite. There is something for every taste: from catchy songs and arias to humorous spoken dialogue and fairy-tale elements. Günter Krämer’s production creates two contrasting worlds: the realm of the Queen of the Night and the temple of the Sun King. Prince Tamino navigates the space between them, accompanied by the bird-catcher Papageno. On their adventurous journey, they traverse primeval forests inhabited by lions, rhinoceroses, and snakes. Mozart’s opera offers an imaginative invitation to reflect on good and evil, dreams, fears, and love. The lovingly crafted—and partly mechanical—set design creates true stage magic. Tomáš Netopil, a renowned interpreter of Mozart’s music, conducts the Orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Our ensemble of soloists delights audiences with their spirited acting and singing.

On September 24, 1961 the Opernhaus that had been inaugurated in 1912 and destroyed during the War was reopened as Deutsche Oper Berlin. Ever since it has been Berlin´s largest and Germany´s second largest music theatre, featuring among the most modern institutions in Europe. The straightforward and elegant building that was realized by architect Fritz Bornemann (he also conceived the America Memorial Library and the Haus der Berliner Festspiele, a. o.) seats 1.859 and guarantees a maximum viewing and hearing experience for every visitor.
