Leonskaja plays Brahms
Johannes Brahms confidently entered the musical public arena in the early 1850s with his only three early piano sonatas. The works combine a clear commitment to tradition – in particular to Ludwig van Beethoven – and at the same time all develop an independent, Romantic-influenced expression. Contemporaries such as Robert Schumann recognised Brahms\\\' extraordinary talent early on. Robert Schumann expressed his admiration for the F sharp minor Piano Sonata op. 2 with the words »a laurel wreath for Johannes«, who came from elsewhere. The great Elisabeth Leonskaja dedicates herself to the three sonatas, a piano programme she herself likes to play – so you can be sure of an outstanding interpretation.
