Ball at the Savoy
07.11.2026 - 04.02.2027 | Landestheater Tirol - Großes Haus
A dazzling evening at the Grand Hotel, a fireworks display of music and emotion: with Ball im Savoy (1932), Paul Abraham created one of the most brilliant revue operettas of his era. Dazzling, cheeky, and rhythmically electrifying, the work tells the story of the wealthy aristocrat Aristide and his newlywed wife, Madeleine, as they are swept into a whirlwind of misunderstandings, jealousy, and romantic entanglements. Masquerades, mistaken identities, and wounded egos fuel the unfolding drama, ultimately revealing that love and trust deserve a second chance even in the modern age.
The Hungarian-born composer blends the elegance of classical operetta with the pulsating sounds of modernity: the Charleston, the foxtrot, cosmopolitan timbres, and symphonic brilliance merge to create music that remains captivating to this day. Yet, beneath the glamour unfolds a witty drama about love, trust, and the art of resisting temptation. To reinterpret this masterpiece, director Christian von Götz a five-time winner of the coveted „BR-Operettenfrosch“ award makes his debut at the Tiroler Landestheater. Celebrated for his high-energy, meticulously crafted productions, he now turns his attention to Abraham’s fascinating universe. Together with the TLT ensemble, von Götz restores the Savoy to its former glory, presenting a vivid tableau of sophisticated globetrotters, charming impostors, and lovers performing a balancing act between mistaken identities and temptation.
