Don Giovanni
13.02.2027 - 15.05.2027 | Landestheater Tirol - Großes Haus
Seducer, transgressor, free spirit: the myth of Don Juan is one of the most influential narratives in European cultural history. The character finds perhaps his most radical musical embodiment in Mozart’s Don Giovanni . Since its premiere in Prague in 1787, the opera has captivated audiences as a multi-layered portrait of a man who crosses every moral, social, and emotional boundary. It is not without reason that E. T. A. Hoffmann called the work „the opera of all operas.“
Don Giovanni lives for the moment, to excess. Driven by lust, a will to power, and a contempt for death, he restlessly pursues new conquests - stopping at nothing, not even violence or murder. His claim to freedom is radical, ruthless, and destructive. Mozart and his librettist, Lorenzo Da Ponte, craft this portrait with a unique balance of comic intrigue and profound tragedy.
In one of the greatest scores in operatic history, Mozart composed music that acts as a driving dramatic force, deriving its form from a dynamic of constant boundary-crossing. Virtuosic ensembles, sharply defined characters, and abrupt shifts in mood make Don Giovanni a work of electrifying theatrical energy.
Director Anna-Sophie Mahler, known for her deeply compelling productions, makes her debut at the Tiroler Landestheater with this work, approaching the archetypal seducer from a decidedly female perspective. Chief Conductor Gerrit Prießnitz takes the helm as musical director of this masterpiece.
