König Lear
27.03.2026 | 19:00 | Wiener Burgtheater
King Lear abdicates and decides to divide his kingdom among his three daughters. In return, he demands that they express their love to him, which - unlike Goneril and Regan - his youngest daughter Cordelia refuses to do. She is banished and disinherited by the angry King Lear. The other two sisters, in turn, disown their father after receiving their inheritance. Betrayed and humiliated, Lear struggles against his decline and falls into madness. In the family of the royal advisor Count Gloucester, intrigues among the sons also lead to an abyss. Rafael Sanchez stages Shakespeare's tragedy about the conflicting nature of power and someone who cannot let go of it.
