Ronja the Robber’s Daughter at Volksoper Wien
With “Ronja the Robber’s Daughter”, Volksoper Wien brings a captivating family production with music to the stage, based on the world-famous story by Astrid Lindgren. This timeless adventure tells a powerful story of courage, friendship, and finding your own path, making it a memorable experience for both children and adults.
Ronja is born on a stormy night as the daughter of the robber chief Mattis. But the once-mighty Mattis Castle has been split in two by a lightning strike – and the other half is now occupied by the rival clan of Borka. While the adults remain trapped in their long-standing feud, Ronja chooses a different path: she befriends Birk, the son of her father’s greatest enemy. When the conflict between the families escalates, the two flee into the forest, where they discover a summer full of freedom, adventure, and mysterious creatures.
The stage adaptation by Stephan Lack, the production by Ruth Brauer-Kvam, and the atmospheric music by Kyrre Kvam make “Ronja the Robber’s Daughter” a very special theatre experience for the whole family. Emotional, exciting, and full of imagination, this production tells a moving story about tolerance, reconciliation, and growing up.
