09.05.2026 | 19:00 | Wiener Burgtheater
It's about politics and power, about the divide between the powerful and the powerless, between ruler and ruled: SAINT FALSTAFF is a story of violence, but also one of hope. While the state descends into chaos and quasi-King Henry searches for a halfway capable successor, soldier John Falstaff and Prince Harry become friends in Frau Flott's container bar. Or do they fall in love? Who knows? In any case, the poison of power wreaks its destructive havoc. On their relationship. And on society.
Austrian author Ewald Palmetshofer leads Falstaff, one of Shakespeare's most famous characters, into the abyss of a dystopian world. Following HAMLET, Karin Henkel directs this linguistically powerful, sparkling adaptation of HENRY IV and, together with the author, asks why times don't get better.
