Performed at midnight in the sacred setting of St. Stephen’s Cathedral, this music reveals an extraordinary intensity.

One of the most remarkable moments of this night concert is the solemn blessing procession and the ringing of the death bell, which takes place at approximately the very minute of Mozart’s death — 12:55 AM on December 5, 1791. Mozart’s connection to St. Stephen’s Cathedral was deep and multifaceted. He married Constanze Weber here, two of his children were baptized in the cathedral, and only months before his death he applied for the position of assistant Kapellmeister at St. Stephen’s. His name is still preserved in the cathedral’s historical records.
